Promega GloMax Discover
The Promega GloMax Discover is a multimode microplate reader built around luminescence, with fluorescence and absorbance alongside it. Revolution triggers a read at the right point in a schedule; the measurement itself is defined in the instrument’s own protocol.
At a glance
Section titled “At a glance”| Detection modes | Luminescence, fluorescence intensity, UV-Visible absorbance, filtered luminescence, BRET and FRET |
| Plate formats | 6-, 12-, 24-, 48-, 96- and 384-well |
| Absorbance | 200–600 nm |
| Luminescence detector | Top-reading, head-on photon counting PMT, 350–700 nm |
| Temperature control | Ambient to 45 °C |
| Revolution control | Trigger a read |
Specifications
Section titled “Specifications”Promega publishes the following additional detail for the GloMax Discover System.
| Absorbance filters included | 230, 260, 280, 320, 405, 450, 490, 560 and 600 nm, 10 nm band pass |
| Shaking | Linear or orbital, 100–500 cycles/minute |
| Injectors | Optional dual injectors, 5–200 µl in 1 µl increments |
| Dimensions | 18.5 in (46.9 cm) W × 19.5 in (46.5 cm) D × 10 in (25.4 cm) H, without tablet and PC mounted |
Fluorescence filters
Section titled “Fluorescence filters”Promega lists the following standard filter sets:
| Filter | Excitation | Emission |
|---|---|---|
| UV | 365 nm | 415–445 nm |
| Blue | 475 nm | 500–550 nm |
| Green | 520 nm | 580–640 nm |
| Red | 627 nm | 660–720 nm |
| AFC | 405 nm | 495–505 nm |
Which of these your instrument has fitted determines which assays it can actually run — the filter set is physical, not a software setting.
Two practical notes. The stated dimensions are without the tablet and PC mounted, so allow more than that when planning a deck position or an enclosure. And temperature control runs ambient to 45 °C — like several instruments in this catalogue, it heats but does not cool below room temperature.
Supported methods
Section titled “Supported methods”- Read — trigger a measurement
The protocol — mode, filters, plate map, kinetics, injector use — is defined on the instrument. Revolution decides when the read happens, not what it measures.
Integration
Section titled “Integration”Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- The instrument’s own software must be installed and the protocol the schedule expects already defined on it.
- The plate format must be one the instrument supports, and the fluorescence filters your assay needs must be fitted.
- Where the optional injectors are used, they must be primed as the instrument requires before an unattended run.
If you need more of this instrument driven from a schedule, get in touch — the driver is extended on demand.
